JMFC Syllabus and Exam Pattern

Every year, thousands of students from Maharashtra complete their LL.B. degree and after graduation, the students aim to crack the JMFC exam (Judicial Magistrate First Class Examination). This Judicial Services Examination is conducted by the MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission).
How to Clear JMFC Exam?
There are three main stages of the JMFC Examination and these are;
- 1st Stage - Preliminary Examination (100 Marks)
- 2nd Stage - Mains Examination (200 Marks)
- 3rd Stage - Interview (50 Marks)
Preliminary Examination
The preliminary examination is an objective type of exam. In the preliminary exam, 100 objective questions are asked and each question has one mark there is a negative marking system for 4 wrong questions 5 marks will be deducted from the total score.
The preliminary exam is conducted only in English, whereas the main examination is in English and Marathi.
And, those students who clear the cut-off (final score) are shortlisted from all the examinees and are selected for the main exam.

Mains Examination
The nature of the main exam is conventional type. After the preliminary exam, some of the students are shortlisted based on marks and they get a chance to give the main exam. The main examination consists of 2 papers. The first paper is on civil law and the second is on criminal law. Each paper has 100 marks.

Interview
The successful candidate will be called for an interview in the ratio of 1:3 of the available vacancies. The minimum qualification to be called for an interview is to get at least 50% marks on each question paper.
The interview will be 50 marks. Only candidates with at least 40% marks in the discussion/interview will be eligible for the final selection/recommendation.
